Our mobile phone service Ecotalk + RSPB have teamed up with the RSPB and the Daily Express to secure Horse Common in the New Forest for future generations.
We’re halfway to our target of £90,000 and to celebrate, wildlife presenter Chris Packham is offering five lucky people the chance to join him for an afternoon’s birdwatching, getting up close to some of his favourite birds of prey at the Hawk Conservancy Trust near Andover.
To get your name in the hat, all you need to do is donate to the reserve appeal - and five winners will be chosen at random, it doesn’t matter how much you donate.
Horse Common, a very special place
Once a damp woodland, Horse Common was drained to plant conifers. If we rewet this area, it can become home again to declining bird species such as lesser spotted woodpeckers, willow tits and butterflies like the silver-washed fritillary.
Horse Common is next to an existing RSPB reserve called Franchises Lodge and the purchase will help connect other habitats – woodland and heathland – into a bigger haven for nature.
How to enter the competition
To enter the contest, just make a donation on the RSPB Horse Common website and don’t forget to enter your contact details when asked.
You can also send a cheque made payable to RSPB to Daily Express Horse Common appeal, RSPB, The Lodge, Sandy, Bedfordshire, SG19 2DL. To enter the draw please write your name, email address and telephone number on the back of the cheque.
