At Ecotricity, the environment is at the heart of everything we do. We care and want to make the world a greener place. That’s why we’re proud to be the first energy supplier to demand the government address the climate and nature crises together through Zero Hour’s campaign for the Climate & Ecology (CE) Bill.
With our Prime Minister saying we’re ‘leading the world on climate change’, you’d think that we’d already have legislation in place to accelerate our move to net zero - but unfortunately that’s not the case. The current Environment Act only aims to stop further destruction of the environment, rather than actively trying to reverse the decline – which is what the CE Bill aims to do.
Melissa Blake, Head of Domestic Growth at Ecotricity, commented:
“We need to see nature flourish again and set on the path to recovery – and we need to make sure that we're doing everything we can to keep global temperatures below an increase of 1.5C.”
At a time when the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is saying we need immediate action, we can’t afford for our government to just stop the damage on our environment – we need them to be proactive in reversing the harm done.
It’s undeniable that the government have a huge part to play in fixing the current crises we’re facing, so what does the Bill ask?
If made law, the Bill would ensure that the UK:
Cuts its emissions fairly and fully to limit global temperatures rising past 1.5°C.
Not only stops the destruction of nature by 2030, but also reverses it.
Involves citizens to decide on the best way forward for people and planet.
Alongside our partners Lush, Friends of the Earth and WWT, we’re proud to add our name to this campaign.
