Forest Green Rovers is on the hunt for a new head chef to continue the club’s revolutionary work as the world’s first vegan football club.
The successful candidate will continue the outstanding work of current head chef, Em Franklin, who is leaving the club after three years in post.
In that time, the club launched the world’s first vegan football club menu to much acclaim, won the Sports & Leisure Catering Magazine ‘Menu of the Year’ award and received a ‘highly commended’ prize in the Great British Pie Awards for its signature dish, the Q Pie.
FGR’s healthy and exciting vegan menu has been hugely successful in spreading FGR’s environmental message around the world, and the club has even inspired other clubs in the Football League to try vegan food.
Dale Vince, FGR chairman, said:
“This is a massive opportunity for a talented, passionate chef to build on the considerable success we’ve had with our vegan menu, and the media interest we’ve had in our ethos.
“I can’t think of another chef in sport who has been interviewed by so many media outlets across the world – from China to the USA and most places in between.
“Food sales at FGR have quadrupled since we went vegan a few years back, and this season we’ve sold thousands more of our award-winning Q-Pie than ever before.
“We’re gutted to lose Em, who made our transformation to vegan such a success, but there’s a huge opportunity for someone new to take us to the next level.”
As well as developing the club’s food offering, the head chef will support the wider community and schools work of the club and work with the media to promote FGR’s approach to vegan food to a global audience.
Forest Green will celebrate Em Franklin’s contribution to the club at the last game of the season against Grimsby in May.
The club is also looking for an assistant chef to join the team. The deadline to apply is 16 April, with both roles starting in the summer.
